BHAVANI G.S.

Bhavani G.S. was born and raised in the lap of nature in Kodagu [Karnataka]. Quite understandably, her work reflects an enduring connection with the natural world. Despite living in the city for more than 15 years, her faculties are still entrenched in the green valley. “I’ve always look forward to any kind of meaningful encounter with nature,” she says.
Her recent work is part of an ongoing exploration of Nature and it’s textures, order, structure and matter of the natural world.
Living in Bangalore, she often visit the vast, primordial jungles of Kodagu which is an inspiration. her walks or hikes are often the genesis for a site specific work, Video, painting or drawing. During her walks, she observe, sketch, photograph the organic forms that are an inspiration for her works. These observed remnants serve as connections between personal experience and finished work.
The Seasons and weather determine the materials and the concept. With no preoccupied ideas about what she will create; she relays on what nature gives to her. The images documented there have become an integral part of her work.
In Video “Journey with the River Cauvery” she has been exploring her relation with the most contested water resource of the river Cauvery and use her body to navigate the river till it reaches the Bay of Bengal. The images travel through traditional spaces of worship, contamination, rituals of bathing, washing and other communal activity. This poetic journey through the landscape has references to her earlier site- specific installations and interventions in landscapes using organic materials. This search for the self in nature is like the ever changing course of the river as she traverses through the shifting landscape of time and space.
